| Abstract: | 1991 marked the occurrence of two anniversaries connected with the late Jewish scholar Umberto Cassuto: the fortieth anniversary of his death that took place in 1951 as he was prep'aring the third volume of his commentary on Genesis, that was to be entitledAbraham and the Promised Land, to cover sidra or pericope Gen 12,1-17,27; and the thirtieth anniversary from the publication in 1961 of the small volume The Documentary Hypothesis and the Composition of the Pentateuch. Of course, we are speaking here of its ftrst English edition since in modern Hebrew it had already been published in 1941 and reprinted twice, in 1953 and 1959. |
