Abstract: In trying to determine the opportunities and limitations of visitor management it has to be recognized that, like many of the terms and phrases which occur in the tourism literature, visitor management lacks convenient definition. In general we might suggest that it is an approach which seeks:1. To protect and ideally enhance the resource, be it natural or cultural, which draws visitors to a particular location. 2. To maintain and improve the economic benefits which tourism can bring. 3. To assist visitors in enjoying their visit.
