Abstract: All member states of the European Union are expected to participate in the Economic and monetary Union, although eligibility to adopt the Euro (the third stage of the EMU) is conditional on satisfying the so called Maastricht criteria, and three countries, namely Britain, Sweden and Denmark, stayed out of this stage of EMU.
