Analysis of statistics of services provided for domestic violence survivors

Abstract

After a woman manages to ask for help from services providers what happens after? After a woman manages to leave home, how would she go back after just a few months or weeks if not days? Breaking out from domestic violence is never easy though it is possible, to break out and survive away, from domestic violence. The "breaking out" period can be very long, and it is normally characterised by "breaking out" and going back "living in" domestic violence. Thus this study first try to show if this is true and then shows how victims are making use of services at this particular stage in their life. And so the study is limited to those "potential survivors" who managed to report their state of life and seek professional help. The study starts by statistically establish how far domestic violence goes and if Malta is as "other" countries, answering who are the local victims and for how long they were abused and by whom. Then moves to establish the types of abuse inflicted, years living in abuse and age on reporting. Then by going through, the procedure victims of domestic violence can and have to follow. Mainly services provided by the Domestic Violence Unit, Merħba Bik and Dar Qalb ta' Gesu', and by asking the question "what happened after" try to establish how women survivors of domestic violence are making use of services provided. Mother abuse involves a good percent of children and the study seek to establish how services provided are affecting mothers if positively or negatively, for how long and if services provided are enough.
