Abstract: To put forward a critical analysis of the views and perspective of one of the largest trade unions in Malta regarding lifelong learning. This study is an investigation of what the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin (UHM) has been doing for the past years to instil the idea into its members and what plans have been formulated to ensure that lifelong learning becomes accessible to everyone, especially those who really need it. This was carried out by making use of structured interviews with the main actors concerned and by delving into documentation available on various lifelong learning websites and official documentation relating to national and international organisations involved in the lifelong learning field. The research includes a discussion of the main findings and emerging themes including easing of young workers' entry into the labour market and the development of the right skill base as well as the issue of employability. A number of recommendations aimed at strengthening the focus on lifelong learning within the union are made.
