| Abstract: | Following the peaceful transition from the Second to the Third Republic in 1993, the inevitable process of restructuring has got under way. The post - independence education system, although well - established will continue to be challenged to offer solutions to emerging problems, issues and aspirations. In trying to attend to these challenges, dilemmas and contradictions about ideologies, philosophies, process and outcomes will be unavoidable. The essay analyses the development of education with particular reference to the secondary level, from the historical - political perspective and within the context of the strengths and limitations of a small island state ecology. In cognizance of the intrinsic abilities and inabilities of the Seychelles and of the relevance of the international dimension of future educational development efforts, the author, through this essay joins the politicians and planners in probing for alternative pathways which are likely to qualitatively enhance and sustain the educational achievements of the Second Republic as the country journeys through the Third Republic. |
