Abstract: In this dissertation the potato exportation from Malta is discussed. The cultivation of the crop on these islands goes back quite years until Malta was a colony of the British Empire. Until the British ages in Malta potatoes were produced for the local consumption. During the WWII time the crop had a high value due to its rareness since it's a good source of food. The dissertation focuses on the exportation taking place in these days. The exportation nowadays is different from other times. Since Malta formed part of the European Union the exporting crop as aii other crops should be certified with EurepGAP certification. All the measures that raise the produce to the standards of this certification are to be taken. This certification is needed so that the Spring Potatoes of Malta could be sold to other European countries, both members of the EU and not members such as Switzerland. The certification gives a better impression of the product. The Maltese government regulations on the Exportation of potatoes were also studied in the dissertation. The exporting varieties have also their space in this dissertation. The exporting varieties are always increasing in number and so give both the producer (farmer) and the buyer more choices to rely on. These varieties also have different harvest times, this lead to better markets, affecting both price and quantity sold to the market. The presentation of the produce plays the first best role in the foreign market. In this piece of work the grading/packing of the Maltese Spring Potato was studied and observed. This process is discussed in the following pages of this dissertation. All of the work has a relative interesting research.
