Abstract: The Second World War was a historical event that impacted the entire world. In many ways, the war was the culmination of conflicts left unresolved by World War I, after a tense 20-year hiatus. It was a brutal war because it left 40,000,000-50,000,000 dead, making it the largest and bloodiest war in history (Britannica, 2021). The objective of this memory is to reveal the influence of World War II on the Spaniards, namely, soldiers of the Blue Division and the Republic, women and families, from the point of view of Carla Montero, a contemporary novelist. This book consists of three parts that narrate the story of two stepbrothers, Lena and Guillén, in three different stages; the Spanish Civil War, World War II and the post-war period. During all these phases Spain had always been divided into two; the nationalist side and the republican side. In addition, in El invierno en tu rostro, Montero gives us the point of view of both a nationalist and a republican to understand both sides and to also show the rough adventures they went through during the war. It is through a comprehensive analysis of both the novel and testimonies and anecdotes that I intend to show the dark reality of war and that not only the soldiers were the protagonists of the war and its consequences, but also women and families. In the first chapter, I will give information about the author herself and the mentioned novel and also about some of her relatives who were also veterans of this war. The following two will tackle the Second World War, first giving a historical context and then deepening the analysis of the Spanish people.
