Abstract: Vaughan Lowe QC (born 1952), Emeritus Chichele Professor of Public International Law, has contributed widely to various areas of international law through acting as counsel in a number of significant cases, both international and domestic, and his numerous judicial and arbitral appointments. He is the author of many books and articles on the subject. This piece deals with the problems of extraterritorial jurisdiction, primarily as evidenced in US antitrust legislation, and presents the notion of economic sovereignty as a potential solution. Published in the International and Comparative Law Quarterly in 1985, the article is the summary of a paper delivered in July 1983 at BIICL. It is but one of a number of contributions to the subject Lowe has produced.
