Abstract: Architecture and the built environment are part of everybody’s lives as most human activity takes place within them. They are also an important element in the way tourists experience cities. Tourist activities in cities take place in the buildings and urban spaces. In many instances it is the building or the urban space that motivates the tourist visit. A main objective of this book is to help readers develop an understanding of the relationship between tourism activities and the built environment. Tourism in European Cities is a first in that it considers urban tourism with a special focus on European cities. Beyond giving the theory and explaining the concepts, the book uses examples and case studies from European cities to illustrate them.
