Abstract

This book deals with obituaries published in Maltese newspapers - a rather forgotten, and marginally used, source in Maltese history. Obituaries are here placed at the centre of investigation, employed as a 'window' on Maltese society during the 19th century - at a time when the (post-1838) press was being entrenched as a mainstay of the modem printing consumer culture of the literate middle classes.
