Abstract: Among the many Crucifixes venerated in the churches located in every town and village of the Maltese Islands, the one at the Capuchin church in Gozo features prominently owing to its history and devotion. This seventeenth century work of art, executed in Sicily, was brought to Malta where it had been venerated in a number of churches until it was placed at the newly built Capuchin friary in Gozo; and later it was transferred to their adjacent church. This article deals with the history, art and devotion of this most venerated Crucifix. [Excerpt]
