Abstract: This research looks into how big data, when utilised to its full potential, results in a competitive advantage in the gaming industry. As indicated by the literature review, this study aims to fill a research scarcity in the local Maltese context that relates to the topic in question, which has already been reviewed in other countries to a certain extent. The primary goal of this research is to get detailed information on the application of Big Data in the local gaming industry. Other goals include identifying what makes big data hold such leverage in the competitive market of the gaming industry. To achieve the aforementioned goals, a qualitative research approach was employed to collect primary data. In this study, ten participants took part in the in-depth interviews where they were given a series of questions to be answered. Following that, the findings of this study were investigated and critiqued. The findings reveal that big data has really been adopted by most companies, however, it is also the case that it is not being utilised well or to its full potential locally. Nonetheless many local companies highlight the advantages of adopting such a technology. Other findings also however show that there are also disadvantages and barriers to keep in mind and mitigate when implementing or investing in big data analytics. To summarise, this research reveals the importance of proper utilisation of big data analytics for it to considerably improve the business processes and analytics overall and in turn result in a considerable competitive advantage in the industry.
