Abstract: This paper investigates the device power loss in a direct AC-AC converter drive and compares the results with the predicted loss in diode rectifier-PWM inverter drives and active front-end inverter drives. A comparison of the Venturini and space vector modulation algorithms is also presented in terms of converter efficiency and input harmonic distortion.
