Abstract: A new way of finance is rising to prominence. The Global Recession, the consequences of climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukrainian war are all catalysts to sustainable finance. This dissertation delves into the sustainable finance legislation enacted by the European Union with the main aim to prevent greenwashing and maintain investor protection. The implementation of this legislation in the Maltese financial sector will be deeply analysed and a comparative analysis with France, the UK and the US will be carried out. The Maltese financial sector is still in a preparatory stage, and various challenges for stakeholders will be identified, however sustainable finance is the way forward. Against this background, it will be suggested that the Maltese regulatory authorities ensure that this new area of finance is cultivated in order to achieve a more sustainable way of doing finance.
