Abstract: The text provides an overview of the complex history of the Catholic military order called the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem (the Order of the Knights Hospitaller) founded in the 11th century in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, then operating in the island of Rhodes and in Malta. The main subject of study is the influence of Jerusalem on the formation of the Order's spirituality.
