Abstract: Topic Overview: End-stage renal failure is a disease that affects around 697.5 million people around the world. Haemodialysis is one treatment that helps people around the world. A new device was invented in the 1970’s that would perform the same function as the hemodialysis machine but in a compact and discrete way that allows the person using it to live more independently. Research question: In renal failure patients is haemodialysis more effective than wearable artificial kidneys in improving quality of life? PICO Elements: the population of people with renal failure, the intervention of haemodialysis, the comparison of wearable artificial kidneys. The outcome is an improved quality of life. Inclusion and exclusion criteria: eligible for this study were people with end-stage renal failure undergoing haemodialysis. Not eligible are people undergoing Peritoneal dialysis and anyone aged over the age of 70 years. Study outcome: The study outcome is to examine if the WAK would exceed the conventional haemodialysis. Methods: the systematic search was done to be able to retrieve appropriate studies. Synonyms were used along with search tools and also limiters. Databases used are ProQuest, PubMed, and also HYDI. The PRISMA flowchart was used when selecting the articles and also the CASP tool was used. Results: From the studies used, they were all consistent with the outcome. They have all shown that further research is needed on this subject as it is still a new concept. Conclusion: the evidence found about this subject has proven well that the WAK has helped people around the world and would continue to help. Implications and Recommendations: recommendations for more research about this subject. Implementation of the WAK should be used locally to help Maltese people with end-stage renal failure.
