Abstract: The career choice is one of the most important choices in anyone’s life. Choosing a career with the PS has long been a subject of interest to various scholars. Different theories have been developed over time and adapted according to the different countries they are conducted into. This dissertation delves into the reasons why people choose the Public Service as their career choice. This study is conducted on a specific scale in the Public Service, namely the ‘Clerk’ scale. The Maltese Public Service has a reputation that people choose it as their career due to the safety, stability, and laid-back atmosphere it provides. This dissertation is based on the Public Service Motivation theory developed by J. L. Perry in 1996, whereby he explores various reasons why people are attracted to a career with the Public Service. A local scholar, E. Camilleri has conducted a similar study in the local scenario saying that various things affect the career choice of a person. This study has been adapted according to the local scenario. Questionnaires are based on J.L. Perry’s theory; however, other questions are added to determine whether other criteria affect the career choice. Interviews are also conducted to have a deeper insight of the current employed clerks.
