Abstract: This paper lists the people who have distinguished themselves in the study of the Arabic language since the 16th century. These include interpreters for the Knights, translators, in particular, of the Gospels, secretaries, and teachers), and traces the history of the teaching of the Arabic language in Malta since the 16th century until today. A short bibliography of preserved manuscripts in Malta on Arab studies is made available by the author.
