This Department is one of the ten that makes up the Faculty of Health Sciences. Our remit is to promote a holistic approach to teaching and research in the areas of food and environment to promote health and quality of life. This is achieved through the assembly of a staff complement (resident, visiting or casual) that brings together a wide range of otherwise fragmented areas of expertise. This assembles a group that would not otherwise come together. The Department has two interdependent streams, Food Studies (Food Sciences, Public Health Nutrition and Dietetics) and Environmental Health. Both streams are focused on maintenance and means of improving Health and well-being. Our Department has the remit to produce graduates to educate, to advise and design measures to ensure optimal lifestyle based on informed choices in varied areas such as food selection for health and environmental stewardship.
