Abstract: | During the thirteenth century Templars and Hospitallers acted as cubicularii in the papal household. After the dissolution of the Templars in 1312 the tradition was continued under the French popes resident at Avignon. Hence, this article describes the Hospitallers role in Florence, Italy in connection with mural paintings and decoration. |
