Studies in local history : Naxxar

Abstract

In this dissertation, I tried to give a better view of how Naxxar has evolved historically from the nineteenth century till the twentieth century. Throughout this dissertation, I tackled various aspects of Naxxar such as population, education, occupations and how the village’s social scene developed. This development of Naxxar has been compared to the development of the national scenario throughout the dissertation. Given that I am from Naxxar gave me more drive to work on the social history of the village. My research is based on different sources, such as various Censuses of Malta, The Malta Government Gazette and the Malta Blue Books. Together with several different secondary sources published by different local historians and academics to give a better view on the development of Naxxar.
