| Abstract: | To the study of Virgil, Mgr Edoardo Coleiro dedicated the best efforts of his fine intellect. In entering into the school of such a great master, he stood in good company, among the greatest luminaries who forged our western civilisation; personalities like the great doctor of the Church Augustine of Hippo who saw in Virgil the formator of ‘unformed minds’, or the sublime poet Dante Alighieri who hailed him as ‘my guide, my lord and teacher’.2 It is in the wisdom of the ancients that a guide for the present is often to be found. This, Mgr Coleiro, the priest and the scholar, must have understood well, as he sought to delve deeply into the treasures of the past, the sources for his vision for a lasting future. |
