| Abstract: | This dissertation explores the complexities of the sex work industry and how the internet has transformed it, specifically in relation to the advertising of sexual services online. The internet has provided a new platform for sex workers to promote their services to an international clientele, giving rise to ethical and legal implications in the process. Regulating or blocking these advertisements online is complex since the legality of sexual services promotion is uncertain in many countries. This study takes a comparative look at the rules and regulations that govern the promotion of sexual services in different jurisdictions around the world. It addresses questions pertaining to the legality of such advertisements, the possibility of their suppression, and the need for regulation. The purpose of this dissertation is to provide a feasible approach for Malta which takes into account the many legal complexities involved in the marketing of sexual services. Overall, this study serves to emphasise the necessity for further debate and deliberation to identify the most efficient strategy for the regulation of sexual services advertisement online, given the unique issues presented by the internet's particular nature. |
