A law based financial services architecture

Abstract

This collation of readings is sourced in work carried out by students of the 2010- 2011 class attending the Banking Regulation and Banking Law programmes in the University of Malta’s Department of Banking & Finance.

When students work hard it is always both surprising and satisfying to see what they can come up with. As their lecturers we have pushed them hard, but their group work was a reaction amply demonstrating their dedicated approach to the tasks assigned to them, and their will to succeed.

These scripts originated by way of class presentations made by the students themselves. When editing these scripts for the purpose of putting them together in this book we have been guided by a number of considerations. In the first instance these have been, for the students, unusual times when to write and prepare class presentations related to these two areas of their studies, as well as sifting work undertaken amongst voluminous material coming at them from so many sides, e.g. the media, gurus and experts sprouting all over the place about crises, sprouting at the same time, and, indeed, also lecturers insisting on their taking certain specific lines or approach towards the issues involved by reading – yes, even more - specific set texts.
