| Abstract: | This is a legal study regarding the European Union’s contribution to weakening Russia’s economic base, through restrictive measures, to stop it from waging war against Ukraine. This dissertation provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of such European Union sanctions against Russia, focusing specifically on the maritime perspective. It begins with an in-depth analysis of the legal framework and types of EU sanctions, which is then followed by a deeper look at their implementation and enforcement. The study analyses the effects of the maritime industry in the EU sanctions, namely in the energy sector. Moreover, it seeks to examine the impact of sanctions on shipping, encompassing limitations on exports and entry bans on vessels, and assesses the possible consequences and effectiveness of these measures. This dissertation provides valuable insights into the intricacies and implications of EU Russian sanctions through a comprehensive assessment of relevant literature and data analysis. It specifically focuses on the impact of these restrictions on the maritime industry and global trade. |
