| Abstract: | This dissertation explores the life and influence of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, known as Pope Francis, focusing on his impact on consecrated life from 2013 to 2023. It is divided into three chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of Jorge Mario Bergoglio's early life, his decision to join the Jesuits, and his development as a spiritual and leadership figure. It traces his journey from a Jesuit priest to a Pope committed to transformative leadership in the face of modern ecclesiastical challenges. The second chapter examines the contemporary challenges facing consecrated life, including aging populations, declining vocations, relevance in modern society, decreased interest in contemplative and monastic life, dissatisfaction among religious members, inadequate formation, and the slow implementation of Vatican II reforms. It provides a comprehensive view of the current state of consecrated life. The final chapter delves into the main themes emphasized by Pope Francis regarding consecrated life, such as the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience; the importance of prayer; community living; discernment; renewal; new evangelization; synodal leadership; and fostering a new culture within the Church. It explores how his vision and directives aim to rejuvenate consecrated life in the modern era. Thus, this dissertation concludes by highlighting Pope Francis' significant influence on the renewal and adaptation of consecrated life in response to contemporary challenges. |
