Abstract: I am conscious of the fact that Professor Richard Whish tackled the bread and butter competition rules of Articles 85 and 86 E.C. Treaty and some major Block Exemption Regulations at last year's Annual Conference. Malta has since adopted its own Competition Act, and Professor Whish returns to Malta in April to speak on this Act as well as on recent developments in EC competition policy. He will speak at the State of the European Union 1995 series of public lectures organised by the European Documentation and Research Centre of the University of Malta. I interpret my brief as a wider one than that of setting out or even amplifying upon the Competition rules. I shall endeavour to sketch the broad picture as I see it from the European Union's perspective as well as then that of Maltese industry and commerce within that picture. The legal 'parameters', though not the detailed faw, should then emerge. [excerpt]
