Abstract: PURPOSE: The study explores the key factors that influence corporate success in the gaming industry, focusing on performance management systems, key performance indicators, and critical success factors. This research aims to identify measures that contribute to a company’s profitability and long-term sustainability in the face of external challenges such as regulatory changes and market competition. DESIGN: This research adopts a qualitative approach, with nine semi-structured interviews conducted with senior executives working in different gaming companies. A thematic analysis was conducted to identify key themes and trends from the research findings. FINDINGS: This study established that profitability, effective customer lifecycle management, and data-driven decision-making are crucial factors for companies’ success in the gaming industry. External factors, particularly regulatory changes and economic conditions, present significant risks, while proactive performance management systems are essential for long-term success. CONCLUSIONS: Success in the gaming industry depends on several factors. However, strategically aligning key performance indicators with critical success factors and the ability to adapt to dynamic external factors, is a crucial factor. Furthermore, different strategies must be used depending on whether it’s a start-up company or an established company. Additionally, companies must balance short-term financial goals with longterm growth strategies to remain competitive in a highly dynamic industry. VALUE: This research highlights the importance of optimising performance management practices in the gaming industry. Furthermore, this study provides actionable recommendations for gaming companies, highlighting the importance of being proactive and adapting to regulatory changes to ensure success.
