Abstract: Among the expressions that have become synonymous with Francis’papacy— indeed, that capture most evocatively the spirit of the pastoral reform being spearheaded in the Roman Catholic Church in our digital times—none are more intriguing than this: “Time is greater than space.”This “first postulate”among the “four” that, in the programmatic apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium, are proposed for an evangelization of culture—the others being “unity prevails over conflict,”“realities are more important than ideas”and “the whole is greater than the part”(222–37)—can also be understood as a bedrock for this papacy.
