Abstract: Besides the motion of bodies in space, there exists motion of space in bodies.’ This is how Rudolf Laban, a Hungarian pioneer of modern dance, depicted the interconnectedness of our bodies with space – a dialogue between the outer and inner worlds expressed through movement. Focusing on somatic dance practices, I examined the potential of moving bodies to contest social norms in my dissertation in Anthropology, supervised by Dr Deborah Williams. [excerpt]
