Abstract

This presentation outlines the construction of Personal Subject Headings, with a focus on the Maltese context. It explains how personal names, including those of historical figures, clerics, saints, and pseudonymous authors, are standardized for use in subject headings. Special attention is given to the Maltese Names Authority List, developed to ensure spelling consistency, and the hierarchy used in constructing headings. The presentation also addresses exceptions for titles of nobility and clerical ranks, offering format examples for cataloging. Practical resources and case-based guidance are included to assist information professionals in applying these standards effectively.
