Abstract: For more than a century, peptic ulcer disease has been a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Peptic ulcer disease is a heterogeneous group of disorders involving the gastrointestinal tract and results from an imbalance between the aggressive forces of gastric acid and pepsin and the defensive mechanisms of the gastric mucosa.
