Abstract: Design plays a potentially transformative role in exploring and constructing futures, particularly through its integration with foresight methodologies. Through design, we can (re)interpret abstract concepts, emerging trends, and societal changes by using artefacts, visualizations, and narratives rendering future scenarios more accessible. The use of design in envisioning futures emphasizes the need for more immersive and interactive approaches to scenario building. Through using narratives, roleplay, art, fiction and various types of media, participants can interact with future scenarios in a more immersive way. On the one hand, design elements allow for the exploration of diverse perspectives, potentially opening the possibility space. On the other hand, the use of design tools encourages active participation in co-creating futures that are contextually rich and relatable. [excerpt]
