| Abstract: | The normal gut microflora, aside from aiding digestion, provides protection against pathogenic organisms. Probiotics have been manufactured with the idea of maximising the effect of gut microflora, also known as “good bacteria”, thus reducing the risk of infection. This theory has proved scientists right on several occasions however stronger evidence is necessary to establish the efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness of these products. |
