Abstract: Objective: The objectives of this review were threefold: to examine what measures are currently available that assess preparation for parenthood, to identify any related tools that measure particular domains of preparation for parenthood while assessing their psychometric properties.
Background: Being able to measure preparation for parenthood amongst men and women is important because its presence has a great impact on the lives of the parents themselves, their infants and on society at large. Being able to identify individuals who are less prepared for parenthood will allow professionals to offer more support and education in an attempt to decrease poorer outcomes and improve quality of life for both the parents and their children.
