| Abstract: | On 9th April, the Institute for European Studies hosted an afternoon conference on EU Trade Policy at Europe House, Valletta. The current policy direction and response was jointly examined in relation to the EU’s overarching policy aims and current events (i.e., US tariff positioning) by academic, government and business community experts with the engagement of an active audience of academics, students, government officials, business community representatives and NGOs among others. Special thanks go to Professor Lars Nilsson from the Trade Analysis and Evaluation Unit at the European Commission's Directorate General for Trade, who enabled a highly informed discussion as tariff events were unfolding (in real time). Local contributors were Professor Godfrey Baldacchino, Dr Moira Catania and Professor Susanna Thede from the University of Malta, Mr David Sammut from the Ministry of Finance and Mr Daniel Debono from the Malta Business Bureau. |
