Abstract: Food democracy is about reclaiming governance of food systems and ensuring equitable access to sustainable food sources. The Mediterranean region, with its rich agroecological traditions, offers a unique model for participatory food democracy. The Mediterranean Model for Sustainable Food Governance is one of four Critical Success Factors embedded within the “Proposal of a Bioregional Strategic Framework for a Sustainable Food System in Sicily” (Guarnaccia, P., et al., 2020).
