Abstract: The electricity sector in Malta is characterised by the monopoly of Enemalta Corporation. Enemalta Corporation was set up in 1977 and its mission statement is “to meet the energy needs and expectations of the customer in a safe, efficient and profitable manner whilst safeguarding the environment”. Its board of directors is appointed by government and one of them is elected directly by the workers. The Corporation offers a broad range of services to industrial, commercial and domestic sectors in the energy field. Its services are the importation and distribution of petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas as well as the generation and distribution of electricity to all sectors of Maltese society.
