Abstract: This article reflects on the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle A) readings from Exodus 22:20-26, 1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10, and Matthew 22:34-40. It discusses St. Thérèse of Lisieux's relevance in the modern world, as recognized by UNESCO and Pope Francis on her 150th birth anniversary. The piece explores her teachings on love for God and others, critiques contemporary distortions of self-love, and emphasizes Jesus's commandments to love God fully and neighbor as oneself. It connects these to ethical living, social justice for the poor and marginalized, and the idea that true faith is measured by love, drawing on philosopher Paul Ricoeur.
