| Abstract: | L-iskart tal-ikel jinkludi ikel mitluf jew mormi f’kull fażi tas-sistema tal-ikel – inkluż dak waqt il-produzzjoni tal-ikel fis-sistema agrikola, dak li huwa għad-dispozijoni tagħna, kif ukoll meta ma jittikilx bhal dak li jibqa’ mill-ikel ippreparat, jew meta jintrema ikel li jista’ jintuża u jingħata lil-food banks, jew biex jissajjar f’xi haġa oħra għal brodu jew jintuża bħala dekorazzjoni (Safdie, 2024). Il-FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation) tiddefinixxi l-iskart tal-ikel bħala ir-rimi ta' prodotti tal-ikel edibbli fi stadji tal-bejgħ u tal-konsum meta jkun għand il-konsumatur, prinċipalment f'pajjiżi żviluppati (2013).
