Abstract: Il biża' mill-mewt imur lura snin twal u ħafna jqisuha bħala universali. L-antropologu Ernest Becker jgħid li "the idea of death, the fear of it, haunts the human animal like nothing else; it is the mainspring of human activity - activity designed largely to avoid the fatality of death, to overcome it by denying in some way that it is the final destiny for man". Tant hu hekk, li xi drabi sa nippruvaw ninnegozjaw mal-mewt. Eżempju ta' dan huwa l-proċess antik tal-mummifikazzjoni Eġizzjana; mhux biss proċess dokumentat fl-istorja imma metafora tar-rieda tal-bniedem li jsir immortali. Skont Kundu "Exchanging finitude for eternal life has been a dominant leitmotif in the literature of death. Tales of attempted immortality populate histories of ancient civilizations, particularly the Chinese and the Egyptian". Dawn il-ġrajjiet kbar, is-simboliżmi, il-miti u l-ħrejjef ikkaratterizzaw il-modi li bihom inġarrbu l-mewt, nimmaġinawha u nirrakkuntawha. [silta]
