Abstract: We are rather used to doing moral theology in a quasi-immanent fashion. After all, one ought to do one’s duty for duty’s sake alone if one has a Kantian background; one should calculate what a good balance of pre-moral goods and evils could be, while considering any contributing contextual factors, if one is a proportionalist; one should seek to avoid any intrinsically evil act if one is a neo-manualist or a new natural law theorist; one should seek human flourishing if one is a revised natural law theorist or if one is a virtue moralist; one could go on.
