Abstract: Consent means to say ‘yes’ to a proposal and willingly adhere to a course of action. This principle applies to all areas of life, such as medical treatment or procedures. Applied to emotional and sexual life, consent should be self-evident. How can we tolerate a situation where one partner imposes a relationship on the other that involves the most intimate aspects of a person’s identity, unity and the meaning of their existence? Would this not be denying the other person, exploiting them, assaulting them, raping them? [excerpt]
