Abstract: This research project aims to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and team dynamics in the construction industry, particularly how individuals with higher levels of emotional intelligence are typically associated with enhanced team behaviours, especially in the areas of communication, adaptability, roles and responsibilities and conflict resolution. A quantitative approach was adopted to investigate this relationship by means of data collected from survey questionnaires distributed to construction professionals. The data was analysed through exploratory factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results revealed that emotional intelligence is strongly associated with conflict resolution, however, no significant correlations to the other parameters were determined. Such findings indicate that whilst emotional intelligence may enhance certain team behaviours, its influence varies depending on the specific aspect of team dynamics being investigated. This research accorded empirical evidence to the sector of construction management, particularly on the specific role that emotional intelligence plays on team dynamics. It highlights the value of emotional intelligence in conflict situations and suggests future research possibilities for a better understanding of the nuanced impact of emotional intelligence on construction teams.
