Abstract: There is no standard class or standard student. There is no single method of teaching which will reach every individual equally effectively in the classroom either. Instead of standardising ways of teaching, Differentiated Instruction aims for tailored learning methods to cater for students’ differences. The main question this project based study addresses is ‘How can differentiation methods be used in the middle school art class?’. The research question is tackled by studying literature about Differentiated Instruction, inclusion in the art class, constructivism, and social and cultural diversity. Using the knowledge gained from this literature, differentiated methods are puts into practical use in a guidebook. The book includes ten projects. Within each project there are different activities to help scaffold learning, provide opportunities for students to make sense of their learning, and gather formative and summative assessments. Within the activities, there are tips for the teacher to adapt the learning to the needs of the students. The book also includes an appendix of printable material which can be used when conducting the lessons. The project report supports the book by explaining its structure, content, methods and strategies used and how they help to cater for (and celebrate) diversities.
