La poética de la muerte en la narrativa criolla de Horacio Quiroga

Abstract

Este artículo acomete un análisis de la muerte en la narrativa criolla de Horacio Quiroga ambientada en el espacio localista de la región de Misiones y de cómo, en esas narraciones, la muerte acontece por efecto de la naturaleza y para resaltar la debilidad del hombre en ella. Exponemos el modo en que Quiroga concibe y emplea una suerte de poética de la muerte para resaltar esa idea. En virtud de ello, explicamos esas obras como literatura que dramatiza la lucha del hombre contra la naturaleza en su empeño en hacer avanzar a civilización hacia el interior del continente sudamericano.

This article analyses a number of Quiroga’s short stories where death is caused by the power of nature (in the region of Misiones) and by the weakness of the men who live in it. It reveals in those stories a poetics of death that Quiroga deploys in order to develop this subject matter. Accordingly, this article posits the thesis that some of Quiroga’s short stories are literature dramatising the struggle of men against nature in their efforts to bring civilisation to the inland wilderness of the South-American continent.
