| Abstract: | This second volume builds upon the architectural framework of the first, which was structured around three interrelated movements: reframing theology, becoming Church, and journeying together. The initial section of Volume One examined how theology might serve not merely as a custodian of tradition but as a dynamic and critical response to contemporary ecclesial and global complexities. The second part turned toward the life of the Church, exploring renewed paradigms of leadership, ministry, and pastoral care in light of evolving ethical and anthropological frontiers, including those shaped by technological innovation and post-humanist discourse. The final section considered synodality as more than a structural reform, presenting it instead as a recovery of ecclesial practices grounded in shared discernment, mutual participation, and co-responsibility. Volume Two extends this trajectory by shifting the centre of gravity outward: from intra-ecclesial dynamics to theology’s engagement with pluralism, conflict, and the fragility of the human condition. The first part, Engaging Difference, addresses the theological and pastoral implications of ecumenical and interreligious encounter, underscoring that attentiveness to the “other” is not peripheral but integral to the Church’s vocation of reconciliation. Here, difference is approached not as a problem to be overcome but as a site of ethical responsiveness, deeper listening, and cultural engagement. The second part, Flourishing Beyond, draws these strands together by envisioning Christian flourishing as embodied, relational, and eschatologically oriented. Theological reflection is here inseparable from lived experience – rooted in the concrete hopes and sufferings of individuals and communities, and attuned to the tensions of the present without losing sight of the promise of ultimate fulfilment. Taken together, these two sections offer a vision of theology that remains alert to the pressing tensions of our time – between tradition and innovation, continuity and disruption, rootedness and openness. The contributors, writing from diverse contexts and disciplinary perspectives, share a common conviction that theology retains its vitality not by furnishing definitive answers but by cultivating the capacity to live faithfully in the midst of uncertainty. To speak of faith beyond certainty is not to abandon conviction or clarity but to relocate them within a posture of humility, attentiveness, and courageous engagement. Like the volume that precedes it, this collection participates in an ongoing theological conversation, one that resists reductive binaries between faith and doubt, Church and world, tradition and relevance. It invites the reader into a more integrated and imaginative discourse, in which faith becomes a mode of listening, a source of meaning, and a force for transformation in a world that longs for both truth and grace. |
