The Maltese social perspective : a comprehensive examination of workplace diversity and inclusion in the Maltese public service

Abstract

This study examines workplace diversity and inclusion within the Maltese Public Service, focusing on the social, cultural, and organisational factors that influence these practices. It seeks to assess employee perceptions, policy effectiveness, and the role of leadership in fostering an inclusive workplace. Using a quantitative research methodology, this study is based on data gathered via a questionnaire to assess employee attitudes and experiences. The subsequent analysis highlights the difficulties and opportunities related to diversity and inclusion within the Maltese Public Service. This dissertation examines key subjects such as the influence of cultural diversity on organisational culture, the efficacy of current diversity and inclusion policies, and the role of leadership in the promotion of an inclusive workplace. The study aims to provide actionable recommendations for improving workplace diversity and inclusion within the Maltese Public Service by examining these factors. To achieve meaningful progress, diversity and inclusion must be embedded into the core values, policies, and everyday practices of the Public Service, enabling it to reflect and respond to the diverse needs of Malta’s evolving society. Findings suggest the need for improved policy enforcement, leadership accountability, and targeted diversity training within the Maltese Public Service.
