Abstract: The aim of this qualitative study is to explore professionals’ perspective on Gender and Addiction in the local context. Five professionals, who work in the field of addiction, took part in semi- structured interviews. The data obtained was analysed using the constant comparative method. Three conceptual categories emerged: (a) The Addictive Career; (b) Treatment; and (c) Social Reintegration. The results show that both men and women face challenges reintegrating back into society after treatment. However, reintegration is harder for women due to social expectations that they face. The dissertation concludes with some recommendations for further research, policy and practice.
